Zoonotic Diseases

There's a long list of diseases and parasites carried by wildlife that can be transmitted to humans.  Just a few included Tularemia, Plague, Tuberculosis, Psittacosis, Salmonella, as well as Rabies, which can remain dormant in raccoons for two years without showing symptoms.

DO NOT allow children to pet or hold wildlife.  It is extremely distressful to the animal, and obviously is dangerous for the child.  Adults should handle animals with care, holding them in a towel or with latex gloves on, and washing your hands each time you handle them.
